Sarries Women Get a Bonus at Bristol
Oct 10, 2010, 8:37 pm

The Women’s XV got their first league points with a hard fought victory at Bristol 34-29. They got the vital 5th try to get the bonus point. It was a needed bounce back after a loss last week against Richmond. Despite missing 2 of their key England players’ Maggie Alphonsi and Charlotte Barras, Sarries belief never waivered and they ground out a win away from home. The backs were firing this week and new signing Mandy Marchak 13, got over for 2 tries and centre partner Sarah Ulmer, got on the score sheet. Leah Morley started at 7, a recent signing from London Welsh scored her first try for the club and Cheryl Thompson scored off her wing.  Darryl Poole who joined Sarries from Bristol came off the bench to make made her debut for the 1st team.

The 2nd XV continued their form with a draw against Hove Ladies 10-10. The game was 30 seconds from finishing when Leigh Dragen scored her second try of the match. Dragen a new signing this season has converted from centre to second row and is already making her presence felt, definitely a player to watch.

Thanks to all who stayed to welcome and play Ki-o-Rahi with our visitors from New Zealand last Sunday. A good time appeared to be had by all, especially the lads from Braintree RFC who entered fully into the spirit of the day.

Many thanks to Jackie Shutler for organising the day - some pictures of the Haka and the game are below:
