Good luck to all teams - please come along and support the players on this carnival afternoon of rugby. The U.17s will be running a BBQ all afternoon and the bar will be open for refreshments. May 8, 2009, 8:04 pm As most of you will now know last saturday at the Richmond Athletic Ground Saracens ARFC Senior Men lifted the Sevens Bowl in what was a fantastic day for all concerned.Following 3 late drop outs we looked to be under strength on arrival despite Christo's superb efforts in pulling a squad together but happily that proved not to be the case. The entire team performed with a spirit I've not witnessed for some time and even the touchline support of injured players Tom and Pete in final made such a difference. All the guys deserve much praise for their great performances but I would like to give special thanks to Coach Dave, Adam who captained the squad brilliantly along with being top points scorer with 40 points. Also to Ramsay the outstanding player of the day along with being top try scorer with 6 trys and to Andy who just got better and better and finally to Christo who stepped in when needed and proved his worth and felt very proud to go on in the final if only for a few moments along with spending so much time assembling the squad in the first place...what a guy!
During the day we did suffer two losses against very good opposition in Redingensians and last years main Cup winners St Marys(Although we gave them a fright in the 1st half) but we did have fine wins against Old Millhillians,Harlequins and Hammersmith and Fulham before reaching the final where we were up against a good Twickenham side with almost all the grandstand supporting them!
Twickenham scored first with a breakaway but we replied quickly and were soon producing champagne rugby running out 24-7 winners.Dave Perks,Christo,Joyce Clark and yours truly were pleased as punch, what a day!
The full squad was...
Christo Kasabi, Adam Smith(Captain), Andy Harrison, Ramsay Adams, Brad Martin, Fermen Torres, Jeff Rice, Peter Smith, Tom Job, Dorian Craddock and Auben Lavery.
Congratulations to all involved
Terry Edwards. May 8, 2009, 1:07 pm The Saracens Reunited 10s Tournament will officially close out the Senior & Colts 2008-09 season at Bramley Road on Sunday 17th May, starting at 1pm.
The event was rescheduled from April to allow the Senior Section to focus on two other late season events - a decision that was fully vindicated by Saracens winning them both! Congratulations to our 2nd XV for their win in the Merit Table Cup Final, and to the Saracens 7s squad, who won the Bowl Final in the Middlesex 7s last week - our first senior 7s title in the new Saracens Amateur era!
The draw and match times will be published early next week, and the Tournament will feature teams reunited from their Saracens U.17 squad days, going back to the Class of 2000!
'New Sarries' will be looking to defend their 2008 title against pressure from Colin & Terry's 2002 Age Group - last year's beaten finalists - plus plenty of other teams seeking the glory. Sam Kelly's Class of 2008 team enter the competition for the first time this season on a mission to secure the trophy for the youngsters.
Our U.17 squad will be running a BBQ all afternoon to raise funds for their South Africa tour this summer, and the bar will be open all day. Timetable for the day is as follows:
- End of season team photos at 1pm for 1st XV, 2nd XV, Colts
- Reunited 10s Tournament starts 2pm
- BBQ all afternoon
- Presentations and end-of-season awards around 6pm
Please come up and join in the carnival atmosphere, watch some entertaining 10s rugby, and help us close down the season in style! Terry Edwards. Apr 25, 2009, 6:11 pm A tight encounter against UCS in the Merit Table Cup Final today, saw our boys up against it in the dying stages of the game. With much tension and the odd mistake creeping in, we managed to hang on, take the win and importantly, take back 'OUR' cup that we first won in the inaugural competition two seasons ago.
Our boys led for a good two thirds of the match by a tight 7 points when a stunning 50 yard dash by young Ryan, was adeptly finished off by skipper and 'colossus' Tom Weir. As the desperation of the UCS boys intensified, their slippery No. 13 broke the line to score under the posts and even the match up, with only 10 minutes to go. It was looking dicey for us as some of the boys were starting to feel the pace. Fortunately Sarries were awarded a penalty from a seemingly unkickable distance. The six hours of practice that Tom Job put in this week paid dividends when he slotted over the stunning 30 yard winning kick. A massive Sarries support turnout (50+) ensured that the vocals and 'in depth' advice from the sideline was never far away, coupled with Tom Castle's 27th different hair style of the season, all meant that all was well in the end. Special mention must go to Tom Weir, Tom Job, Joe Rogan, Nick Elliot and young colts Sam and Ryan for their special performances on the day, but in truth no one on the park today had a bad game. Noony, Brian and Lucky, take a bow; the cohesion and tight forward play is a credit to your recent intense coaching sessions, none of which would have come to the fore without your considerable input in recent times. Well Done the Lads!!!! ![]() Apr 19, 2009, 8:32 pm The Saracens Reunited 10s Tournament, that was such a success last year in bringing together so many current and former Saracens Junior players, is to be rescheduled allow Senior & Colts players the chance to support the Saracens 2nd XV in their Merit Cup Final next week

"It is absolutely right and proper that we all get behind our successful 2nd XV in their Merit Cup Final" said Director of Rugby Colin Veitch "There have been great strides forward this season with the successful addition of the 2nd XV to the Senior set up, and everybody wants to be on the sidelines to support them on 25th. Saracens Reunited will relocate to a new date to accommodate this"
A new date is under discussion now, and all Age Group teams from 2000-2008 will be consulted next week to establish a new time for the 10s Tournament Apr 9, 2009, 11:16 am Saracens May Ball U17 South Africa Tour Fundraiser Come and join us for a great evening at Bramley Road Clubhouse on Saturday 9th May 2009, from 7.30pm -Midnight.
