The Dinner, as in previous years, is being organised by the Under 17 Age Group so that any profits made can be utilised by that Age Group in their tour of South Africa in Summer 2009. Please support the Club Dinner which is a very important event in the Club's calendar and also by doing so the Under 17 Age Group. Charles Portsmouth
Honorary Secretary Oct 28, 2008, 4:08 pm Following a fine win away on the road at Erith RFC in Kent in Round 3, Saracens have pulled a home draw for Round 4 on Saturday 22nd November Our opponants will be Fakenham RFC from Eastern Counties League 1 We look forward to welcoming them plus a big crowd of home supporters to Bramley Road on 22nd! Oct 26, 2008, 2:44 pm The 1st XV were defeated 15-6 away to League rivals West London RFC in a closely contested game. This was the first defeat of the regular season after 5 straight League and Cup wins in a row.
Saracens started strongly, crossing the opposition line in the first 5 minutes but failing to ground cleanly for the try. West London struck back with two first half tries, both of which were disputed by Saracens to no avail, leaving the visitors 15-3 behind at half time.
A 2nd half Saracens defensive shut-out of West London, including a 20 minute period with only 14 players on the pitch, was the most impressive feature of the game. The team made too many errors in the opposition 22m zone to close the points gap and take the match.
Ben Suddell was awarded Man of the Match honours for an excellent all-round display across the pitch and strong contribution in the line out. James Rawlinson, too, played his usual high tempo game and looked dangerous throughout.
Saracens stay in top slot in Herts/Middlesex 1 on points difference, but will need to recover their consistency throughout the League & Cup games in November to maintain their challenge for promotion and honours this season.

Oct 6, 2008, 10:10 am The Colts lost a close match in their first league fixture of the season away to Old Albanians on 5 October. The match was played in a howling gale blowing the length of the pitch, with the match played very largely in the downwind half. Sarries had the benefit of the wind at their backs in the first half having lost the toss, and accumulated 9 points to nil at half time, all from penaly kicks by Phil. OAs scored two tries in the second half, one of which was converted, plus a penalty kick. There was much to build on in Sarries' performance, particularly in the scrum, which again was strong despite being relatively light. Squad: Nick Lewis, Matt Kujawski, Connor Reddington, Sam Kelly, Jamie Lewis, Scott Wolsey, Ben Sudell, Dan Shepherd, Jake Phipps, Phil Tipping, Oli Norman, Freddie Paxton, Mattie Finn, Kieran Glennon, Ryan Griffin, Connor Jennings, Pat Hicks.
We are obliged to OAs for agreeing to play this fixture earlier than scheduled, which allowed Coach Lucky to take charge. For the the next two Sundays Lucky is in South Africa, and Peter Kenny will take charge. |
