Honourable mentions to Nick Miller and The Doc, who both top-scored with 17 tries over the tournament. Mar 15, 2008, 12:09 pm The Tournament is ON and early indications are that it is set to be a really great day at Bramley Road! The Saracens U.17 Age Groups from 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003/4, 2005, 2006 and 2007 have all confirmed they will be entering teams and they will be joined by at least one squad of 'New Sarries' who already look to have a strong squad lined up... Former players, coaches, managers and spectators have all confirmed they will be dragging themselves out of 'retirement' and back up to Bramley Road on April 26th to watch what should be a sparkling display of Saracens 10s Rugby. Referees have been booked, the bar is definitely OPEN all day, and this season's U.17s Squad - the Class of 2008 - will be running the BBQ as a fund-raiser for their own Tour of South Africa this summer For more details on how to get involved as a Player or Supporter click here Mar 12, 2008, 8:00 pm Two very serious lapses in the squad Code of Conduct have resulted in the Players Court being called to convene for the first time this season.Squad Assistant Judge Gillings, and High Court Judge Yost have been asked to arrange a hearing to review Code of Conduct breaches by Craig Miller and Nick Bird at the earliest opportunity. It promises to be bloody... Fuller details in the 'Page of Woe' section of the website. Other squad members are warned that multiple breaches of the Code will not be tolerated and a Court appearance may follow Mar 10, 2008, 2:55 pm A storming run from the DoR Colin Veitch has closed the gap to only 3 points at the top of the Sarries Ammies Fantasy League, as the 'Balls of Steel' team posted tries from Wales' Williams and France's Rougerie in a weekend in which 5 point scores were tough to come by. Nick Miller in 3rd place continues his knack of picking the try scorers, but 'Where are the Fez Boys' failed to make ground on Kasabi's 'Moufflon Dreamers' at the top. It's all down to the final round of games next week...
Mar 8, 2008, 7:23 pm The 1st XV closed out a 13-10 win over League challengers Hitchen with an inspired performance from the squad's younger forwards. 4 U.19 players, 2 making their debuts, contributed to a controlled League win that promises much for next season. With more than 10 1st XV squad forwards unavailable for selection this Saturday, the youngsters seized their chance to start a game, and produced a fantastic performance against a far older and heavier Hitchen pack. Dan Shepherd and Ben Suddell locked the pack to a decent scrummage performance and were both outstanding in the line out, producing a stream of clean ball for the backs. Joby Weston and Scott Wolsey worked tirelessly from the back row, knocking over the big Hitchen ball carriers time and again. Saracens looked confident coming forward, with match MVP Chris Hurrell having another great game at inside centre. Andy Edwards provided pace and threat at full back, and Smith, Kirkton and Rice all linked well with one another to challenge the Hitchen line. Brad Martin and Jeff Rice scored the two tries to finish off fine passages of play, and Sam Clark kicked the winning penalty. "This was a really satisfying win" confirmed 1st XV skipper Nick Bird "We've failed to close out League games like this during the season, and it has cost us dearly. To see the youngsters performing like this is tremendous" Mar 6, 2008, 10:55 am Both matches are at Bramley Road this Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. 1st XV meet time is 1:30pm at the Clubhouse; all 2nd XV players are welcome to join in a coach-led warm up at 2:15pm on the front pitch. Please confirm your availability for selection on the website, or let Team Managers know directly if you have not been picked, but are available for the weekend.
