The Committee have asked Ed Cheek to take charge of regular pitch inspections at the club over the winter period.
"This is the time of year when the pitches suffer most" said President Lee Adamson "We think it best that one person is empowered to make the call on whether training should go ahead, or not, and have appointed Ed to the task"
Ed Cheek will communicate directly with Junior, Senior and Women's sections to inform them if pitches are unplayable at any time.
"Please give Ed your fullest support" added Junior Section Chairman Jules Davies "Cancelling training is never an option that is taken lightly, but we are only haf way through the season now, and it is important that the pitches stand up to the pressure of our constant use" Dec 8, 2007, 7:46 pm
A fine 27-7 away win at Cambridge side Cantabrigians RFC kept the Saracens 1st XV cup run alive, and puts the team into the la
st 32 draw in their first season in the competition.
Heavy rain and strong winds did nothing to spoil the spectacle, as Saracens struck early, with tries from full-back Jeff Rice and Cypriot International prop Christo Kasabi. Fly half Sam Clark slotted one of the conversions to put Saracens ahead 12-0 after 18 minutes.
Cantabrigians kept the match competitive at all times, but Saracens rush defence kept the pressure on their half-backs and midfield, and flanker Matt James seized on a loose ball to score the visitors third try just before half time.
The home side scored under the posts early in the second half after a half-break from the fly-half; however, Tom Gillings powered over for a try in the corner to maintain the Saracens lead.
The strength of the Saracens bench proved decisive as Adam Smith, Dean Miller and Andy Edwards all came on for the final 30 minutes and effectively closed out the game. The pack dominated a tiring Cantabs scrummage, and Smith quarterbacked the side very confidently from the fly half position.
Andy Edwards, appearing in a Saracens shirt for the first time in two years after 2 major knee operations crossed for the most popular score of the day, after the forwards had set up perfect fast ball from a line out set piece.
Andy Edwards, appearing in a Saracens shirt for the first time in two years after 2 major knee operations crossed for the most popular score of the day, after the forwards had set up perfect fast ball from a line out set piece.
Edwards was, predictably, also awarded the 'Dick of the Day' apron for a fluffed kick ahead with his first touch of the ball!
Peter Sleath was awarded Man of the Match after a great performance in the #9 shirt in which his sniping runs and box kicks kept the opposition on edge all match.
The team returns to League action next Saturday, with a home game v Kilburn Cosmos, kick off 2:00pm Dec 3, 2007, 12:56 pm
Senior and Colts training is being moved to an earlier starting time, in an experiment that will run until the Christmas break.
"The overall message from players and coaches is a positive one" said Director of Rugby Colin Veitch "However, we need to measure if this results in higher numbers of players at training, and whether we can get the sessions started promptly at 6.30pm - both key factors"
Players should arrive early at Bramley Road, and start their personal warm ups as soon as they can, to ensure the sessions can commence on time

Financial markets breathed a huge sigh of relief and further international stock markets losses were avoided after Craig Miller's chequebook was spotted in the Acton area after the recent Saracens match
"It was incredible!" commented Membership Manager Terry Bird "Of course, I had been told that it existed! But I never expected to see it in 2007, and certainly not in Acton of all places"
Witness statements confirmed that the chequebook did make an appearance, although there were some doubts as to how many cheques had actually been signed...."There were certainly at least 2 that I saw" noted Radders, normally a most reliable commentator "But it appeared that one was destroyed during a dispute..."
An industry expert made clear just how rare an event this had been..."Seeing Craig Miller's chequebook out is definitely a major event, and one to store up and tell the grandchildren....I do not think we are likely to see this again" Dec 1, 2007, 6:34 pm
The 1st XV lost a crucial League match away to 2nd place Old Actonians, despite a virtuoso performance from Sam Clark at flyhalf, appearing in his first match for almost two years after knee surgery.
The pack dominated the set piece throughout the match, but conceded a constant stream of penalties for infringements at the breakdown, and the OAs flyhalf gratefully kicked his side to the win, helping himself to 15 points.
"It is very frustrating when we hand the game to the opposition like this" commented Director of Rugby Colin Veitch "I cannot fault the guys for their passion, but we must also demonstrate control. We absolutely let OAs get out of jail here, and this seriously damages our promotion ambitions"
All the Saracens front row had excellent games and posed the opposition non-stop problems at scrummage. Gillings and O'Driscoll dominated in the line out, and the pack contested every breakdown - but obviously outside of the Law Book in the eyes of the referee.
Behind the pack, Sam Clark produced a wonderful display of attacking and defensive kicking from 10, and showed his vision with a number of half-breaks to release the Saracens wingers. However, it was some route #1 rugby from the pack against the fading OA forwards that produced a late try for Kasabi and gave Saracens hope of winning the game late in the second half.
Time, however, ran out with Saracens in the ascendency, and the earlier points conceded were enough for OAs to bank the win.
Matt Jenkins & Tom Sadler took the Dick of the Day award for both being sin-binned for technical infringements in the second half, with Sam Clark awarded the Man of the Match blazer for a remarkable come back game.
Next Saturday the 1st XV visit Cambridgeshire, with a place in the last 32 of the EDF National competition their prize if they can beat Cantabrigians...

Saturday November the 24th brought West London RFC to Bramley road, and against a Saracens 1st XV side determined to re-establish themselves as genuine title contenders in the league. Playing in the unfamiliar white strip (paid for by the Colts team) and in front of a fair sized crowd the stage was set for a gripping contest.
Beginning the first half brightly Sarries were on the board
first with an Adam Smith penalty. However
Nov 23, 2007, 12:40 am On Sunday the 18th of November the Saracens Colts side put in a focused and assured display to beat a strong Bury St Edmunds side 26-12. Having lost narrowly the previous week to Hertford, the mood in the changing room was one of focused determination to make amends and get the job done this week. Playing on our home turf with a sizeable crowd in support all boded well for the team that day. Unusually for a Saracens side we started well with some good link up play leading to second row Dan powering over for a try. Despite conceding a try we went into half time one try to the good due to a textbook driving maul from 20 yards, finished off by Sean Hughes Jnr. Special mention of the half must go to Jack “the dummy†Girdlestone for both a massive Boom on his opposite number and a crucial try saving tackle on a flying winger, surely an early contender for Golden Balls of the season The second half was a similar story to the first, with Saracens
dominating possession and territory. Phil Tipping was able to finish off a
beautiful team try, where almost every player touched the ball through at least
5 phases of continuous quick possession. High tempo, high intensity rugby at
its finest! The strength in depth of the squad was shown as all the subs came
on and played an important role in the victory, most visibly the ball carrying
strength of Orrieso Agbareh who gained a huge number of yards. The opposition were
fortunate to gain a try after a defensive lapse before the victory was rounded
off by a length of the field effort from Phil after cleanly catching an ill
judged cross kick, despite the swirling winds. As an assessment the win was
built on a solid forward platform from line-outs and scrums, where we
dominated. The backline was mostly effective in defence, (other than one or two
lapses through the 12 channel due to position inexperience) and looked
dangerous in attack particularly the back three, where debutant Yousef had a strong
outing.
